Day 2

Temples: 6-10 Lodging: Guesthouse Chanel-Kan Steps logged: 41,203 Distance traveled: 17.8 miles (Fitbit); 15.77 miles (Google) Day 2 was a rewarding but long day. Invigorated by the incredible nabe the night before and the breakfast in the morning, Dwayne and I set off feeling pretty good. Temple 11 involves a steep but short 700m climb (pointed out to us by the friendly gentleman at the bottom: "Only 700m. Straight up windy road."). We were pretty done by the end of it, but we still had about 6km to go to get to our lodging for the night. We both had aching feet at the end of the day, and the weather called for rain all day the next day, so instead of traversing the most difficult part of the pilgrimage (the section between 11 and 12), we decided to stay another night and have a relative rest day. We grabbed an udon and katsu set dinner at the place next door to our lodging and slept hard.
